This wreath was inspired by some of the non-traditional fall color decorating I've been seeing floating around on Pinterest. I wanted to make a fall wreath that wasn't bright orange or red or yellow. <br />
Here's what I came up:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDwGJtUGpF1EmPfTrDWXY5N3HQLMd8dJYYK3DKPO43xfTu9sMmUI-RWYEAyOtqD3gJpJkWFitgRMeOBVhKlo2nbYDDqFV-6K9H0KcxLbk8rIEepLEdkPxrcaKYSsr0jLrYxERrRcREesQ/s1600/image1+%25289%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="600" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDwGJtUGpF1EmPfTrDWXY5N3HQLMd8dJYYK3DKPO43xfTu9sMmUI-RWYEAyOtqD3gJpJkWFitgRMeOBVhKlo2nbYDDqFV-6K9H0KcxLbk8rIEepLEdkPxrcaKYSsr0jLrYxERrRcREesQ/s640/image1+%25289%2529.JPG" width="529" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Things you need:<br />
<br />
-Fall artifcial flower or foliage<br />
-18" grapevine wreath<br />
-Wire cutter<br />
-Green craft wire<br />
-Glue gun <br />
-2 1/2" wired burlap ribbon<br />
-Wooden initial<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhp-AiuJppeImy75AhCmq_Vi_O7lj1N-SxFHZydKDF05wWlFoRn6BmDNIOzVW6mSN7HN8CUaLZ3utS9en_SianVte529y936s3GNRZLJE5DIZlegUONnaHKsqnAnYkfIFtX4U5yuyijvKM/s1600/wreath+supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhp-AiuJppeImy75AhCmq_Vi_O7lj1N-SxFHZydKDF05wWlFoRn6BmDNIOzVW6mSN7HN8CUaLZ3utS9en_SianVte529y936s3GNRZLJE5DIZlegUONnaHKsqnAnYkfIFtX4U5yuyijvKM/s640/wreath+supplies.jpg" width="619" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I found the arrangement on sale at Michael's. It was way cheaper than buying all these pieces individually. The pine cone accents are from Hobby Lobby.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwaZ1BhaxyoeXIHiIkZgchYlAqYFu1cPEqtjuBU-O_8-4BrYimpDmM6iZpLKNpZkLwNi_iaa08Ll1b_5Q3EHeE_DOL9Ul_8R-EMaGjVqAydhH4OOqP7F62-EQSr0YzhBsPGR6cculR98w/s1600/image5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwaZ1BhaxyoeXIHiIkZgchYlAqYFu1cPEqtjuBU-O_8-4BrYimpDmM6iZpLKNpZkLwNi_iaa08Ll1b_5Q3EHeE_DOL9Ul_8R-EMaGjVqAydhH4OOqP7F62-EQSr0YzhBsPGR6cculR98w/s400/image5.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Take your pinecone branches, or whatever foliage you chose to use and trim off the long extra stems, just below where the branches or leaves meet.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDOctMbAvqTbr8qDuUA1hPD5QeNfS3i9s3eT36opx_UDGi13Jqi-fdjVekHaALu0JkEDo5seNaX9K1hhx3Pe4_lj5t9z28wwsAOCifVMnE7U6vcus_TBA6dSMhHIv63eTNQzY_thA5fZw/s1600/image1+%252811%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDOctMbAvqTbr8qDuUA1hPD5QeNfS3i9s3eT36opx_UDGi13Jqi-fdjVekHaALu0JkEDo5seNaX9K1hhx3Pe4_lj5t9z28wwsAOCifVMnE7U6vcus_TBA6dSMhHIv63eTNQzY_thA5fZw/s400/image1+%252811%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Arrange your branches or leaves how you want them- have them covering at least one whole side of your wreath, leaving space on the other side for your initial.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI8afcTpj_5jzntRrGhDRC3O8VWVz8Pdh0LLGhn1cH69spA5p7inSkXrI31Sv9sAId8VYYs18ChyphenhyphenuWLwCN6nGS5e0Kg2DwodR96FPkvKJTQD3rhNKBInj_C6Ius3mK1iIeYshtvL-SNYw/s1600/image2+%25287%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI8afcTpj_5jzntRrGhDRC3O8VWVz8Pdh0LLGhn1cH69spA5p7inSkXrI31Sv9sAId8VYYs18ChyphenhyphenuWLwCN6nGS5e0Kg2DwodR96FPkvKJTQD3rhNKBInj_C6Ius3mK1iIeYshtvL-SNYw/s400/image2+%25287%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Secure branches to the wreath with crafting wire where the two ends meet.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Use your glue gun to attach any any stray leaves or pinecones to your wreath.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_nq2w-FUPmzt_nCzcagdMSSGfOLrS9Tgs-yLA0_JHMGe3KUF7MIEuTvX67iG0-Akb586xpEdsgHm53IqgXjmse3jTAf462zcYS3CjTzNmTG5S6KFiRG2TaL3ppNolw-YUSNSq4thHg_A/s1600/image4+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_nq2w-FUPmzt_nCzcagdMSSGfOLrS9Tgs-yLA0_JHMGe3KUF7MIEuTvX67iG0-Akb586xpEdsgHm53IqgXjmse3jTAf462zcYS3CjTzNmTG5S6KFiRG2TaL3ppNolw-YUSNSq4thHg_A/s640/image4+%25283%2529.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Make a bow with your burlap ribbon. Start by forming a loop, leaving extra ribbon at the end. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Form a second loop on the other side, again, leaving extra ribbon at the end.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Wrap the crafting wire around the spot where your loops meet- to secure them together.</div>

<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Adjust the burlap wired ribbon until it looks like a bow. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To cover the wire and for the center "knotted" part of the bow, cut a strip of burlap ribbon. (As you can see I ended up covering this spot of my bow, so you can skip this part if you decide to do that as well).</div>

Fold the sides of the ribbon to create a seam, and secure it with hot glue. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Glue your bow to your wreath where the branches meet. Trim the ribbons of the bow to your desired length, cutting a triangle shape at the end. </div>

<span style="text-align: center;">This is one of my favorite recipes to make. It is from my grandmother and my mom made it often when I was growing up. My grandmother passed away in 2013 and I think of her every time I make this. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiilYQA4PE3CYS2_8SsSh73907leICYWhBfQ3NYRX26M9BsT7xUnGiMG-5s6QN3xFnG-W2wNb8MQhOnXvBXUNCkqSyp84SmDiLA0Du117AcYSzy5r1rW6yUSONulxlOmB6s5iRGFXUsX0/s1600/image1+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiilYQA4PE3CYS2_8SsSh73907leICYWhBfQ3NYRX26M9BsT7xUnGiMG-5s6QN3xFnG-W2wNb8MQhOnXvBXUNCkqSyp84SmDiLA0Du117AcYSzy5r1rW6yUSONulxlOmB6s5iRGFXUsX0/s640/image1+%25286%2529.JPG" width="538" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's very simple and easy, but so delicious- only 5 ingredients:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDn9B2fu2g4eCBcBeLsAHDwL0htd6ztgGjZlnpxWjh2K8BeaxlFvXtVx80R9CUGzSfD2jwAxPFZBErVE3UycpbwkvX8_xUvetrf69r6ip4g-9Zf_xWHLqJ3BVlljlMhfpP5vLYcS3JHrs/s1600/image2+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDn9B2fu2g4eCBcBeLsAHDwL0htd6ztgGjZlnpxWjh2K8BeaxlFvXtVx80R9CUGzSfD2jwAxPFZBErVE3UycpbwkvX8_xUvetrf69r6ip4g-9Zf_xWHLqJ3BVlljlMhfpP5vLYcS3JHrs/s640/image2+%25282%2529.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To make it even easier, cut up your green peppers and onions the night before. I don't usually use shitake mushrooms, but it turned out great. You can use any mushrooms you like. I prefer to buy non-cased sausage for this, but couldn't find any at the grocery store this time around. You can also use hot or sweet italian sausage, depending on your preference. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My grandmother was always adamant that the key to this recipe is to cook your sausage separate from the peppers and onions- or else it turns out with a funny taste. I usually cook my sausage, drain it, and set it aside. Then I rinse and wipe out the pan and cook my onions and peppers. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz22_Ug3DkpoccxEN9imD6JpA3jQWt6F1EHgiOaoEVwe5ToG1qVgwFIH89UXRualq-XftjmiErn5cMrSlp8fdPD7mm5X-iXsjOhbmw3DPnk8-OFTZbp9NfxQhQc2lodttHx9wqoqyTFm4/s1600/image1+%25287%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz22_Ug3DkpoccxEN9imD6JpA3jQWt6F1EHgiOaoEVwe5ToG1qVgwFIH89UXRualq-XftjmiErn5cMrSlp8fdPD7mm5X-iXsjOhbmw3DPnk8-OFTZbp9NfxQhQc2lodttHx9wqoqyTFm4/s640/image1+%25287%2529.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Start by browning your meat in a large skillet. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY95gsUKmRQrXvTLvsMrUrmJyV7Ks0ZUC5fro2ndKaBEQR__E4DPfLzvFOgLGNTQTNHS8eM8Mzpop_B49n-0eOkbZLH0tqiWoU1KnYYQnPX_8Wrc2Wc1x-NiV9gMvom_c_NVp37I98Rr8/s1600/image2+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY95gsUKmRQrXvTLvsMrUrmJyV7Ks0ZUC5fro2ndKaBEQR__E4DPfLzvFOgLGNTQTNHS8eM8Mzpop_B49n-0eOkbZLH0tqiWoU1KnYYQnPX_8Wrc2Wc1x-NiV9gMvom_c_NVp37I98Rr8/s640/image2+%25283%2529.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once cooked, drain your meat and set aside. This is where that important step comes in- rinse and wipe out you pan.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7Xu4CuH93gHQngQC75Bh1TLeWFd4ChnZi3TwmIT4ZCSzP59B_YTO4qKShc2Z91VOlwDT1cxQ1iKRC52JbxBoFrRWIcht1FYCpLaPXjMUTSXw9leuZYZqJC0EAwn0SjuXEwjlefGNELxA/s1600/image3+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7Xu4CuH93gHQngQC75Bh1TLeWFd4ChnZi3TwmIT4ZCSzP59B_YTO4qKShc2Z91VOlwDT1cxQ1iKRC52JbxBoFrRWIcht1FYCpLaPXjMUTSXw9leuZYZqJC0EAwn0SjuXEwjlefGNELxA/s640/image3+%25281%2529.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once clean, return your pan to the stove and drizzle with some olive oil. Add your peppers and onion and cook until translucent- about 5 minutes. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrS4avQJ6omV8LVUIBqG5QY1INbyIakOVXZh_PvrDYZj0cobwNU9EmBQGyOJE-V3uLRjVtDD_5QBwANnGhQGsprklemOAKhGOU0LAANsiw4-x3yxZZsEM7ZG9DAiemSYOtC8SSapYPXkA/s1600/image4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrS4avQJ6omV8LVUIBqG5QY1INbyIakOVXZh_PvrDYZj0cobwNU9EmBQGyOJE-V3uLRjVtDD_5QBwANnGhQGsprklemOAKhGOU0LAANsiw4-x3yxZZsEM7ZG9DAiemSYOtC8SSapYPXkA/s640/image4.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Add your meat back in. Add your tomato sauce and mushrooms- I usually do about 24 oz of tomato sauce- but you can add more or less depending on your preference. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUfJ3pF6JMvKJ1ULOPpow8vg1Z0LbSv0uRv-L9h2djgAgxmpalR2TIT1kWs__jBhGfBAMRyByA5IHaHS2h37QpmSvxnVsjK0VaDmntkGGa75Vx0DXQBRe1qRSgz0M9UGF-LU1xgM9sd8k/s1600/image2+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUfJ3pF6JMvKJ1ULOPpow8vg1Z0LbSv0uRv-L9h2djgAgxmpalR2TIT1kWs__jBhGfBAMRyByA5IHaHS2h37QpmSvxnVsjK0VaDmntkGGa75Vx0DXQBRe1qRSgz0M9UGF-LU1xgM9sd8k/s640/image2+%25284%2529.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Reduce heat to low, cover, and let cook for 30-40 minutes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And voila! Enjoy :)</div>

<u>Easy 5 Ingredient Sausage & Peppers</u></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2) One the pan is clean, place it back on the stove and add in your green peppers and onions with a little olive oil. Cook until translucent, about 5 minutes over medium heat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Some people have a strong sweet tooth, I definitely have a strong carb tooth (...is that a thing?). I love pasta- I make it at least once a week. Give me a good one dish pasta recipe and I'm a happy girl. I bought some smoked salmon the other day and thought it would be deliciously paired with fettuccine. You can use spaghetti, or any pasta you want really. It has some of the my favorite ingredients to cook with: shallots (way more flavorful than onions), garlic, and lemon. You can leave out the cream if you want a lighter, dairy free recipe. I used smoked salmon seasoned with black pepper, if you use plain salmon I recommend seasoning it with black pepper before serving. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I can't believe it is August already! Before we know it fall will be just around the corner. In honor of the last month of summer, I thought I would share some albums that I've had on repeat for the past couple of months. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Love love love this husband & wife duo. Not only are they amazing singers, but they are incredible songwriters. I was so excited when they came out with a full album this year- and have been listening to it non-stop since. Some of my favorite songs are: "Live While We're Young", "You and I", and "Diamonds". Check them out!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Recently saw this guy open for one of my favorite bands and he blew me away. He is amazing live and has a great sound. Love the tracks "Guiding Light", "Janey", and "Close Hand, Full of Friends" (video below- isn't he a little Bruce Springsteen-y?)</div>

<br />
I am a very sentimental person. It's hard for me to throw anything away that has the remotest sentimental meaning to me (seriously... like receipts from fun excursions... its bad, people). Of course our wedding cards were no exception. I finally decided to do something with them, and wanted to share this super simple project. You can make this with any cards, I think it would be fun with a baby's first birthday cards, or a collection of your favorite holiday cards.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Things you'll need: a hole punch, any cards you want in the book, and metal rings</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found these kits at Michael's on clearance for $1.99. They included two metal rings and canvas book covers. I just used the rings and decided to save the covers for something else.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had two freezer bags full of wedding cards, so I decided to make two books.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided how far apart I wanted the holes, and started with one card. I then used that card as a template for the others to make sure they would all line up when inserting the metal rings. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once you have all your holes punched, decide what card you like the best as the cover and insert the metals rings. And you're done!</div>

Happy Independence Day! I hope everyone has fun weekend plans. I love this summer holiday and am so grateful to live in a country where I am free.<br />

<br />
1. <a href="http://www.hm.com/us/product/26480?article=26480-C" target="_blank">V-neck blouse from H&M</a>: Loving this top from H&M! It's a simple cute and comfortable top to wear to work, or pair with jeans.<br />
<br />
2. <a href="http://www.sallyhansen.com/nails/nail-color/color/insta-dri%C2%AE" target="_blank">Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color</a> in Sumac Sonic: I'm a big fan of this quick dry nail polish. It really does dry quickly, and I've found that it lasts longer than most nail polishes. Picked up this shade the other day, and am loving it for summer!<br />
<br />
3. <a href="http://www.target.com/p/merona-tote-handbag/-/A-14930034#prodSlot=_1_9" target="_blank">Merona® Tote Handbag</a> in Cognac: Saw this bag at Target and bought it for work. It is a great size, great price, and looks more expensive than it really is. Very happy with my purchase!<br />
<br />
4. <a href="http://juliasalbum.com/2013/10/easy-paella-with-chicken-shrimp-and-sausage/" target="_blank">Easy Paella with Chicken Shrimp and Sausage</a>: Don't let the word "paella" intimidate you...this is truly a simple and easy version, but sooo delicious. It is husband approved and has become one of our favorite dinners. Plus, its gluten and dairy free- just make sure to check the labels on whatever sausage you decide to use. I made it this week and used spicy italian chicken sausages from Trader Joe's, mini shrimp, and added cooked and chopped turkey bacon instead of chicken.<br />

<br />
Things you need:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Scissors</li>
<li>Printed burlap (in honor of Independence Day I used these two printed burlaps from Joann Fabrics: <a href="http://www.joann.com/holiday-inspirations-patriotic-fabric--burlap-button-patriotic-metallic/13080833.html#prefn1=isProject&q=burlap&prefv1=false&start=27" target="_blank">Circles & Stars</a>, <a href="http://www.joann.com/holiday-inspirations-patriotic-fabric--burlap-chevron-patriotic/13080825.html#prefn1=isProject&q=burlap&prefv1=false&start=3" target="_blank">Chevron Patriotic</a>)</li>
<li>Glue gun</li>
<li>Jute twine</li>
<li>Template for flags- you can download mine<a href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/231902958/Flag-Banner-Template" target="_blank"> here</a></li>
<li>Paper clips (optional)</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Directions:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Iron your burlap</li>
<li>Download and print template (you can adjust your printer settings according to the size of flags you prefer)</li>
<li>Use template to cut out desired number of flags. You can pin printed template to the burlap if that helps- I just printed the template on thick card stock, laid it on the burlap, and cut around it.</li>
<li>Once you have all of your flags cut out, cut your jute twine to the desired length. </li>
<li>Attach the flags. Here's how I did that: I stretched the twine out flat on the ground. I decided how far apart I wanted the flags by setting them on top of the twine. Once I had them where I wanted them I folded over the part indicated on the template and used paper clips to temporarily attach them to the twine. This made sure they wouldn't move when I began gluing. </li>
<li>Glue the flags to the twine by placing a thin line along the fold line indicated on the template. This is where the twine is attached to the back of the flag to ensure the flags don't slide around. Then place another strip of glue to attach the folded flap to the back of the flag. </li>
<li>Hang indoors or outside! </li>
</ul>
This is a great decoration for any holiday or party... I can't wait to make more!<br />

1. <a href="http://www.target.com/p/panera-panera-fuji-apple-12-oz/-/A-13556620#prodSlot=dlp_medium_1_5&term=panera" target="_blank">Panera Fuji Apple Dressing</a>: This find is thanks to a good friend who brought over a delicious salad for dinner a couple of weeks ago. You can find this amazing salad dressing in your local grocery store (I got mine at Safeway). Have it with a spinach salad topped with feta cheese and dried apples. Perfect for summer...but I'm just warning you, it's addicting.<br />
<br />
2. <a href="http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod2960199#" target="_blank">Natural Bronzer by Rimmel</a>: Other than my foundation, I'm a big purchaser of drug store cosmetics. Ran out of my previous bronzer (by Cover Girl) and decided to pick up this one by Rimmel London. Haven't ever used Rimmel products before but I am impressed with this bronzer. It is natural looking and doesn't have the glittery-shimmer effect that I'm not a fan of. I've got this in the Sun Bronze shade and for about $5.00 a pop its worth a try!<br />
<br />
3. <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Fault-Our-Stars-John-Green-ebook/dp/B005ZOBNOI/ref=sr_1_1_bnp_1_kin?ie=UTF8&qid=1403750666&sr=8-1&keywords=the+fault+in+our+stars" target="_blank">The Fault in Our Stars by John Greene</a>: Yes...I'm joining the John Greene bandwagon and finally purchased a copy of this book. I read it in a couple of days. Greene is an eloquent and humorous writer...and also has a proficient ability to evoke tears from his readers. Hubs and I saw the movie this week, and it was really good but the book is always better...you can score a Kindle version for $4.99 right now!<br />
<br />
4. <a href="http://www.target.com/p/nate-berkus-swingline-stapler-gold/-/A-15023970" target="_blank">Gold Stapler - Nate Burkus for Target</a>: Received this as a gift from a couple of friends and I am in LOVE. Its so pretty...and practical. I'm a fan of anything gold and this will make my office desk so pretty.<br />
<br />
5. <a href="http://www.target.com/p/smith-hawken-reg-herb-marker/-/A-14436648" target="_blank">Herb Markers</a>: These copper colored herb markers are gorge and look great next to my mint and basil. They are only $2.99 at my beloved Target...another perfect summer find, get some while they are still in stock!<br />

Thursday night was her bachelorette party...which is where I discovered this amazing and delicious pizza. I've been craving it ever since, and decided to make it for dinner tonight for the hubby and I.<br />
<br />
This recipe is adapted from the amazing <a href="http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2011/09/fig-prosciutto-pizza-with-arugula/" target="_blank">Pioneer Woman</a>. All of my ingredients are from Trader Joe's and cost me under $13.00...<br />

1 4oz package Trader Joe's Sliced Prosciutto ($3.99)<br />
Trader Joe's Wild Arugula ($1.99)<br />
1 TBSP Olive Oil<br />
Sea Salt<br />
Black Pepper<br />
<br />
Directions:<br />
Roll out pizza dough into a circle (as thin as your preference) and place on pizza pan. Drizzle on olive oil, and spread fig butter all over pizza dough. Top with sliced fresh mozzarella, and bake for 12 minutes at 500 degrees. Take pizza out, top with prosciutto and lots of fresh arugula. This is a simple and delicious recipe I created this summer after successfully growing my own cilantro and having some leftover fresh corn- great for a snack...thought I would share for a splash of summer in this wintery season!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQkxkJkzrO37tAX138_DBqqotiMc96N8SE058JSnLs7u44gI5qlzlt01PvTo2FHhaOX5sl7RhuFmYA8l5nz26N7JIaqC6nrMhSBApViRV4RldfWgdaKwWGKex2eC3eqMT7KdeRZSv8JbM/s1600/IMG_3013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQkxkJkzrO37tAX138_DBqqotiMc96N8SE058JSnLs7u44gI5qlzlt01PvTo2FHhaOX5sl7RhuFmYA8l5nz26N7JIaqC6nrMhSBApViRV4RldfWgdaKwWGKex2eC3eqMT7KdeRZSv8JbM/s320/IMG_3013.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Fritters:<br />
<br />
2/3 cup white flour<br />
1 Tbsp baking powder<br />
Pinch salt<br />
7 Tbsp water<br />
1 cup fresh corn (cut off the cob) *you can also use canned corn, but fresh will taste better!<br />
1/4 cup fresh cilantro<br />
1-2 tsp cayenne pepper (add more for if you like <i>spicy</i>!)<br />
<br />
Heat 1/2 cup of vegetable oil in a sauce pan. Spoon batter into pan to create fritter patties. Let patties fry to crisp on one side, then flip over.<br />
<br />
Serve warm with simple guacamole:<br />
<br />
Guacamole:<br />
<br />
2 Avacados<br />
1tsp garlic powder<br />
Juice of 1 fresh lime<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

The one problem is...I don't have a sewing machine...and even if I did...I don't really know how to sew. I wasn't about to start sewing things by hand. I searched high and low for a tree skirt tutorial that didn't require sewing, and none were to my liking. So I created one myself, I love how it turned out!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
What you need:<br />
1-2 yards of any color burlap (depending on how big you want your skirt) I used what I had on hand, which was about 2 yards.<br />
A glue gun (my best friend)<br />
A large roll of satin ribbon<br />
Scissors<br />
<br />
Fold your burlap in half, and then in half again to create a square. Cut the folded fabric into a quarter of a circle- to form a full circle when unfolded. You can use a ruler to measure how large you want your circle to be- I had a tree skirt on hand that I used as a template. <b>Once your large circle is complete, cut another quarter of a circle to create the opening for your tree's trunk. </b><br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Starting at one end of the small strip of burlap, begin removing the strings running lengthwise, to create a fringe. Leave about 3/4 of an inch at the top. You will need a lot of these! I created a bunch until I got bored, and then started attaching them to the skirt, and making more as I went.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Add a strip of glue with the glue gun, and attaching your fringed strips of burlap around the entire circle. Overlap about 1/2 inch at the ends so there aren't any gaps. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now for the satin ribbon border. This is probably the trickiest part, but once you get the technique down its super simple! The goal of this border is to add a beautiful detail, and cover the top of the burlap strips. Start by picking a spot of the circle where you are planning to cut your opening to go around the tree...(this is mainly important if your circle is not completely symmetrical...like mine).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijcJ5dMnBZ4Kd5xBZ86nYjTyPO98lBLWoepzUxFD4SL42to4Kfg25oD7cREW3BebyiG8K5rIJXD42SWnbqUoWA5g8JxOwaGpJjE01Lm6oYBHaG7rLoc8ogTKA3WyP0C4Oy4rZS929mylI/s1600/photo+3+(3).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijcJ5dMnBZ4Kd5xBZ86nYjTyPO98lBLWoepzUxFD4SL42to4Kfg25oD7cREW3BebyiG8K5rIJXD42SWnbqUoWA5g8JxOwaGpJjE01Lm6oYBHaG7rLoc8ogTKA3WyP0C4Oy4rZS929mylI/s320/photo+3+(3).jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Create a 1-2 inch strip of glue along on the top of the fringed border...you don't want to the glue to dry before you've created the ruffled detail...so start with a smaller strip of glue until you're comfortable with the technique. </div>
<br />

Create a ruffle. This is easiest to do by folding the ribbon to create a "bubble" in the ribbon.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvuz4RJ4c5vYrtOMuDhqR4khIm4JZE5rqKIWHjutBYdVigMzR9ApC5uvYdw68T5HcsFbhJ15HwhgEx1RihdwJXbLWVs2IH1jIfytvFf2oBsR3nZ6KrNLxtmaAP-k7OGK0cH7WJbU0N3vs/s1600/photo+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvuz4RJ4c5vYrtOMuDhqR4khIm4JZE5rqKIWHjutBYdVigMzR9ApC5uvYdw68T5HcsFbhJ15HwhgEx1RihdwJXbLWVs2IH1jIfytvFf2oBsR3nZ6KrNLxtmaAP-k7OGK0cH7WJbU0N3vs/s320/photo+5.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Using a finger, press down on the "bubbles" you created in the ribbon. This will give you the ruffled look. This takes some time to get the hang of, so take your time- once you get it down, it goes much faster!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBeXzv1soL43ylJ26NYRoetwvcUccvqftrcZ0lL6afZuntRisWb6yGsadPl7r7cavuFJp67jU3Ndaef_1K55wrKn0p40jmoZ83W-upzj_WRmLtUVWPnLz9L7I_XLRqo8RmfJoIAuaIrUw/s1600/photo+1+%25282%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBeXzv1soL43ylJ26NYRoetwvcUccvqftrcZ0lL6afZuntRisWb6yGsadPl7r7cavuFJp67jU3Ndaef_1K55wrKn0p40jmoZ83W-upzj_WRmLtUVWPnLz9L7I_XLRqo8RmfJoIAuaIrUw/s320/photo+1+%25282%2529.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once your satin ruffle is complete, cut the opening for your tree where the ends of your ribbon meet. I also added a little detail with some burlap roses and maroon satin ribbon, to tie the tree skirt in place.</div>

I love both, but lately have not been finding much time for either. This weekend, however, we have been blessed with a wonderful 4 days off. I woke up yesterday and decided to make one of our favorites: Strawberry Bread. It is simple and <i>soo good! </i>Perfect for me because I love to buy berries but can never seem to eat them fast enough before they go bad. So, when I have strawberries lying around I love to make this recipe:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpI6RC1aPdAYxqRPtyaztEM-K2YZNiJfm2TmiYDqqyIXmfY65K-itOtXseAHMlqeCphFvVfjSgTIfgMPXN-SCwYBhSiEv57XaHsLOpIFb_XV4dryTFQCMKx4AwGfLTJeVckl5_KZ62-rQ/s1600/Image+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="181" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpI6RC1aPdAYxqRPtyaztEM-K2YZNiJfm2TmiYDqqyIXmfY65K-itOtXseAHMlqeCphFvVfjSgTIfgMPXN-SCwYBhSiEv57XaHsLOpIFb_XV4dryTFQCMKx4AwGfLTJeVckl5_KZ62-rQ/s320/Image+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<b>Strawberry Bread & Butter:</b><br />
<br />
1 and 3/4 cups flour<br />
1/4 cup vegetable oil<br />
1/2 cup milk<br />
1 egg<br />
1/2 tsp salt<br />
2 tsp baking powder<br />
1/2 cup sugar<br />
1 cup chopped strawberries<br />
1/2 tsp cinnamon<br />
1/2 tsp vanilla<br />
<br />
<i>Directions:</i><br />
<br />
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine dry ingredients in large bowl.<br />
Add strawberries & stir.<br />
Combine wet ingredients in small bowl and add to flour mixture and berries.<br />
Stir well and pour into a 9x5 in loaf pan.<br />
Bake for 25-35 minutes, or until you pierce a knife into the center and it comes out clean.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Strawberry butter (optional- but delicious)</b>:<br />
<br />
1 tsp confectioner's sugar<br />
1/2 stick butter<br />
2-3 strawberries<br />
<br />
Puree all ingredients in a food processor or blender- spread on bread and enjoy!<br />
<br />
What's your favorite go-to recipe when you have time for breakfast or baking?<br />

I LOVE the town home my husband and I are currently renting. It has a great master bedroom, and beautiful and spacious kitchen, and more than enough room for the two of us. We have one spare bedroom that we have decided will be our guest room...AND our office. At first this idea seemed wrong to me: offices are desks and computers and file cabinets, not exactly a warm and cozy place to keep loved ones. So...my mission has been to create a space that is both homey AND practical.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once I had colors picked out in my head, I started to brainstorm ways to save space. Also, I desperately needed a filing cabinet. I decided to re-vamp a dusty old file cabinet I picked up at goodwill for about $5. I thought it could serve a double purpose as a night stand.</div>

I started by taking off the handles, and removing the drawers. I spray painted the body and drawers of the cabinet gold, and the handles and drawer tags white. I am happy with the result! The only change I would have made would be to prime the cabinet- it still looks good but primer makes for a more even finish.<br />

<i><br /></i>
I thought I would use this first post as a chance to introduce myself and my reasons for starting a blog.<br />
<br />
My name is Kara O'Brien. I am a newlywed army wife who recently relocated from Philadelphia to Seattle. My husband and I have been together for almost four years, and the majority of that time has been spent long-distance. Finally being married and getting to spend everyday with my best friend is <i>wonderful. </i><br />
<i><br /></i>
I am a social worker by profession and will be starting graduate school for my MSW in about a month. I have always had a passion for people and am excited for this next step in my life. However, I also have a deep passion for writing and creativity. I love to sing, write songs, craft, cook, thrift, style...the list goes on. I've had a desire to start a blog for quite some time now. I want this blog to be an honest space where I can share about my life, but also give tips about things I'm learning along the way.<br />
<br />
Thanks for taking an interest in this journey with me!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14357738417559892156noreply@blogger.com0
